Atlantic Gallery is pleased to present GEMINI, a solo exhibition of Alcohol Ink Paintings by Bryant Small. The bold and luminescent paintings, painted on Yupo Paper, are created with the unpredictable high pigmented dyes and float on the surface of the recycled and sustainable synthetic paper.
“Gemini is the visualization of duality – soft and hard, vibrant and dark, bold but sensitive. It’s really a celebration…showing the ability to be more than one thing. Something can be bold and bring comfort at the same time,” the artist says of the collection. He adds “..this is the opportunity for people to get up close with the work and be pulled into color and pattern and texture. Oh! And being a Gemini…the good and bad side is also a large part of this!”
Vibrant tones and powerful movement and varying techniques come to life in these 4 feet by 6 feet (and larger) paintings.
“Experimentation meets Imagination and Exploration” – each painting begins with a color concept and from there, a true experiment derived of imagination and exploring what alcohol ink does organically or can be manipulated to do happens. Alcohol Inks are highly pigmented, fast drying dyes that are activated to move, bloom and blend when they interact with 91% rubbing alcohol. Every single piece is a unique experience because the medium overall doesn’t truly allow for me to recreate a piece exactly in the same way. In my creating, I’m always experimenting and exploring the happy mistakes and colorful victories in my creative process.”
GEMINI is on view at Atlantic Gallery in Chelsea from March 15- April 9, 2022, with an opening reception from 2-6 pm on Saturday, March 19th. The exhibition is open to the public; for further information on gallery access and hours visit the Atlantic Gallery website. For press inquiries; kindly contact Bryant Small: BryantSmall@gmail.com
